About Us

"History - the story of a tale of what has happened or may have happened in the past."

In 2015, a small group of residents from the West Allegheny community formed a Historical Society to do just that - tell a story of our community’s past through pictures, articles, and programs.

Our hope is to expand the group to further explore the wealth of information from the past that the area in which we reside has to offer.

Since our inception, we have hosted several programs such as Jerry Andres from the Pioneers West Historical Society, the History Hounds showcasing their local metal detecting finds, Soldiers & Sailors with their Footlocker Program, the Aetna Chemical Company Explosion by Dan Prevade and the Heinz History Center presentation on Pittsburgh’s Impact on the World. We have also partnered for an Indoor-Outdoor Tour of the Walker Ewing Log House with Pioneers West Historical Society, hosted a field trip for an escorted tour of the Allegheny Cemetery, and brought local authors Brady Crytzer, Gene P. Schaeffer, and Thomas White to the Western Allegheny Community Library for book signings.

We hope that you will "Step into our Past" by visiting the History Wall located at the library, showcasing the communities of Findlay, North Fayette, and Oakdale. A display case has also been donated to display some of the historical artifacts that were donated by area residents. Also, be sure to check out our Pennsylvania collection and local history section for books, West Allegheny School District yearbooks, and more.

Remember, the times you are living in today will be remembered as your children and grandchildren’s past.
